Research Context

Victims of domestic violence within the Polish migrant community in London are often reluctant to report their situation to the police, living in fear of their abusive partner.

The aim of this research is to improve the understanding of often extremely vulnerable victims of domestic violence within the Polish migrant community in London.  It will aim to provide advice on, disseminate knowledge and promote public understanding of the problem, and therefore have a positive impact on the effectiveness of public services and policy, and the general quality of life of the population.

Research Methodology

The research is to be conducted within the Polish community in London, with a mixed-methods approach.  The research will include:

  • surveys
  • focus groups
  • semi-structured, qualitative interviews with a sample of the Polish community members, Polish police officers, support/civilian professionals (police and court interpreters), and charities.
