The Devon and Cornwall Police Task and Finish Group on 'Understanding what makes excellence in developing and leading teams in rural and isolated locations' identified an imperative for a package of work to explore the hallmarks of excellence in developing and leading teams in rural and isolated locations. This study represents a response to that requirement. The ultimate objective of the project is to generate recommendations on reasonable and realistic interventions concerning managerial support and leadership behaviours, characteristics, and arrangements to foster a healthy and resilient population of first response officers, police staff, and supervisors that operate in rural and isolated locations.
This project will employ a sSequential mixed methods design. Stage 1: Qualitative interviews with 15 first responders and an equal number of supervisors and police staff. Stage 2: Quantitative online survey administered to all officers and staff in rural policing teams within Devon and Cornwall Police.
