Exploring the RF vulnerabilities of devices used by law enforcement

Research Institution / Organisation

Level of Research

Professional / Work-based

Project Start Date

March 2017

Research Context

‚ÄčAs we move towards further integration of technologies between buildings, vehicles and those devices carried by the individual we can see an increased opportunity for both high and low level behavioural profiling.

To ensure that the operational effectiveness is maintained, radio frequency (RF) signatures from a number of devices will be investigated to understand the way in which this data is recognised and assets profiled that may put at risk law enforcement assets.

The findings of this research will be utilised to review and amend operational security policy ensuring all identified risks are captured and control measures put in place.

Research Methodology

‚ÄčThe RF signatures of the 5 teams based within the East Midlands will be captured and a base line established. Based on the data leakage from each team a number of control measures will be introduced and a comparison made of the effectiveness of each.
